Day 9 at J Spiders: A Busy Day with New Experiences
Today was the 9th day of my journey at J Spiders. Last night, I set my alarm for 6:30 a.m. instead of 6:00 a.m. like usual. I had learned the hard way that snoozing my alarm until 7:30 a.m. was not a good idea. So, this time, I set it for 6:30 a.m. and woke up as soon as it rang. After freshening up and resolving an issue with the Java compiler I had been working on, I got ready and left for the institute by around 7:15 a.m.
My commute usually takes 15 to 20 minutes if I go straight, but if I end up chatting or getting distracted, it takes longer. Today, however, I reached the institute on time. The Java class was about to start, and I saved three seats for my friends who come from a distance. They arrived later, saw me holding seats, and settled in as the class began. The instructor revised some of the topics from the previous class, like arithmetic operators, and then introduced the new topic: unary operators (++, --). He taught us some tricky interview-level questions using examples, and we all solved the programs together. He also gave us a few exercises, like finding the area of a circle and adding GST to it.
The best part of the class was when the instructor gave us exciting news—our first placement drive would begin on March 15! We were all thrilled to hear that, but he reminded us that we only had 15 days to prepare. He said we would have full-day sessions from morning to evening to complete the syllabus as soon as possible.
After the Java class, we gathered for the pre-placement announcement. I went to a nearby restaurant to have breakfast before the session. I ordered a butter masala dosa. The dosa itself was fine, but I didn’t like the butter on top. Instead of enhancing the flavor, it somewhat took away from it. Still, it was edible. After breakfast, I called my friends to ask if they wanted to attend the pre-placement announcement or if they would prefer to hang out in the park. I decided to attend the session and let them know what was discussed afterward.
When I arrived at the classroom for the pre-placement announcement, I saw it was overcrowded. Many students had been sent outside due to the lack of space. As I stood outside, the instructor arrived and told us to go in, as he would arrange seating. The class was packed, and it took a few minutes for everyone to settle. Eventually, we all managed to get seats, and the instructor went over the important details for the next 15 days of preparation. The session lasted until about 11:00 a.m., and then we were asked to go to our respective classes.
At 11:00 a.m., I had an aptitude class for an hour. I thought I’d pass the time and joined my friends in the park. They were sitting and chatting, and some were jogging. We spent a good 15 minutes there before grabbing a coffee and continuing our gossip and jokes. Afterward, we went for lunch, and I had fried rice. It was good, but the portion was huge, so I ate about 70-80% and saved the rest for later.
After lunch, we attended a presentation class, which was a mix of students giving presentations and the instructor speaking. Following that, we had an SQL class. The instructor discussed the DISTINCT clause in SQL with various examples. During the class, a few students were eager to leave early, but the instructor made it clear that he would not let anyone leave before 4:30 p.m. He told us that only one time would we be allowed to leave early, and from now on, we’d have to stay until 4:30 p.m.
After SQL class, I was supposed to attend a grooming session, but my friends asked me why I was going. I explained that I planned to attend, but then I remembered that tomorrow would be the first day of Ramadan, and I needed to do laundry. So, I decided to skip the grooming session today and attend it tomorrow.
On my way back to my room, I grabbed a Coca-Cola, which was my first cold drink in Bangalore. After that, I took a quick picture of my new PG, entered the lift, and reached my room. When I checked the door, I realized I had double-locked it earlier, but now it was only single-locked. I was shocked and confused—had I forgotten to lock it properly? I put my bag down and received a call from a friend, asking me to help with some resume work, so I worked on that for a bit.
I then remembered that I needed detergent for laundry, so I went to the market. I bought both detergent powder and a soap dish. I went to the terrace to check if the washing machine was available. However, I found two people already using it, so I had to wait. I kept checking every 12-20 minutes, but the people didn’t take their clothes out, which was frustrating. Finally, I spoke to the cook of the PG, and he helped me start the machine. He told me the timer was already at 71 minutes, so I knew I’d have to wait a bit longer.
While waiting, I decided to start writing this blog. After publishing it, I’ll offer my prayers. Tomorrow will be the first day of Ramadan, and I have laundry to finish. So, I’ll update you all on what happens next.
For dinner, I decided to stay in the PG and save money since I had already spent a lot during lunch. The food was surprisingly good—there were 23 dishes to choose from, and I liked all of them. It was the best meal I’ve had so far in this PG. I felt happy and content. Alhamdulillah, I feel like I’m in the right place.
After dinner, I came back to my room, spoke to my mother on the phone, and then had a quick chat with my friend. I watched some YouTube videos, made my bed, and was about to sleep. But before I did, I decided to publish this blog. Inshallah, tomorrow, I’ll do my laundry in the morning and see what happens next.
Thanks for reading, and stay tuned for tomorrow's update!
