My Journey to Bangalore: A Personal Reflection
On the 14th of April, 2025, I embarked on a new chapter of my life, a journey that I had dreamed of for a long time. As I stood ready to leave my hometown, I felt the weight of both my luggage and the emotions of leaving behind old relationships and familiar places. My family, including my aunt and some other relatives, had come to see me off at home. My bags were heavier than expected, and I felt a bit overwhelmed. We all made our way to the railway station, where I was greeted with a mix of emotions.
The whole family gathered to give me a warm farewell. There were hugs, good wishes, and heartfelt words from everyone. I could see the tears in their eyes, and while I wanted to cry too, I knew I had to stay strong. This was my moment to step into the future I had been dreaming of – moving to Bangalore to turn my life around.
I tried to hold back my emotions. I didn't respond to any of the emotional farewells, knowing that if I did, I would break down. I pretended to be brave and kept quiet, saying only a brief "yes" to all the well-wishing. It was a bittersweet moment. As the train was about to depart, I finally said my goodbyes, climbed aboard, and watched my hometown fade away.
This was my first time traveling in a three-tier AC compartment. The train was comfortable, but my mind was full of mixed feelings. For the first couple of hours, I was lost in my thoughts, watching YouTube on my phone. I had to make sure my power bank was charged since I knew finding a charging point outside the station would be difficult. I woke up early the next morning to ensure my devices were ready for the journey ahead.
When the train stopped at a station, I got off and tried to manage my heavy luggage. It was a challenge. The train station had no ramps, and I had to carry my bags down several flights of stairs. The crowd was overwhelming, and I had to wait for everyone to pass before I could slowly make my way down. Once I was out, I faced another challenge – getting to the metro station. I found the lift and purchased my ticket, but the fare had increased since my last visit, which caught me off guard. It was a small bump in the journey, but I moved forward.
At the metro station, I learned that there was a luggage fee for bags over 15 kg. After sorting that out, I boarded the train, expecting it to be crowded since it was around 9 AM – a peak time. Surprisingly, the train was nearly empty. I was able to find a seat, though it didn’t last long. A few stations later, people started filling the seats, and I was forced to stand for a while. Eventually, I found a place to sit, and before long, I reached my destination.
Upon arriving at my destination, I noticed that there was no lift or escalator at the metro exit. I had to face yet another set of stairs. By now, my luggage felt heavier than ever, and I just took a brief rest before continuing on. I decided to take an auto-rickshaw to my PG (Paying Guest accommodation). The fare was higher than expected, but I had no other choice.
Once I reached the PG, I was shown two rooms. One had a rent of ₹9,000, and the other was ₹11,000. I chose the ₹11,000 room, which had an advance of ₹6,500. The room was a bit smelly, so the first thing I did was spray room freshener everywhere. I cleaned the room and arranged my luggage before heading out to grab a bite to eat.
I went to a nearby mall to watch a movie, Sanam Teri Kasam. I had some time to spare, so I went to Domino’s to grab a pizza. Afterward, I had a Coca-Cola and enjoyed watching YouTube while waiting for the movie. I was so excited, but when I entered the theater, I discovered I had booked the wrong seat. It wasn’t comfortable at all, but I made do.
During the interval, I managed to find a better seat and enjoyed the rest of the movie. Afterward, I went to the food court and had French fries, though I was a bit surprised at the price. It was ₹230 for a portion, but I ordered them anyway. I was just glad to sit in a comfortable spot and relax.
And that’s where my day ended. I was exhausted, but I felt a sense of accomplishment. It had been an emotional and challenging day, but I knew that this was just the beginning of my new journey.
